Thrift Store Family Fun

For a while, my sister and I have joked about going on a thrift store outfit double-date (we got the idea originally from this fun couple) and I’m happy to say we finally made it happen this last weekend! We also wanted to include the kids, so incorporated a thrift store scavenger hunt for them as well. It ended up being such a fun family activity!

We started with some ground rules for the outfit selections and the scavenger hunt:

  1. Boys versus girls teams.
  2. 45 minute time limit.
  3. $12 budget per outfit.
  4. $10 budget per team for the scavenger hunt.
  5. We used the below list for our scavenger hunt (print-friendly version Thrift Store Scavenger Hunt).

Anything with Mickey Mouse
Bedtime story
Something with your favorite character
Clown figurine
Funny phrase coffee mug
Coloring book
“Best Grandma or Grandpa” merchandise
Art supply set
Christmas figurine
Assortment of random toys in a sealed plastic bag

There were two opportunities to win; the team that selected the worst outfits for the other team and the team that found the most items from the scavenger hunt list. The kids loved helping pick out terrible clothes with us and trying to find as many of the scavenger hunt items as possible. They equally enjoyed seeing mom and dad wear the ridiculous outfits to dinner!

Needless to say, I think the girls won… what do you think?
